University life isn’t all about studying - it's also a great place to make lifelong friends and have fun! From joining a club or society to meeting up with friends in Atmosphere bar and café, there are plenty of things to do outside of academia across our campuses.
Watch our video below for an overview of Salford Students' Union and get a taste for student life.
Once you register with us, you’ll automatically become a member of our Students’ Union. The Students' Union (SU) is run by students for students, independently of the University, to help you love your time studying here.
From events and activities to clubs and societies, the SU has it all, and it’s a great way to meet people and make new friends. They can also help you with any queries you have whilst studying here, from financial advice to wellbeing services and more.
askUS is our student support service, helping you love your time with us. They provide help with anything outside of your studies, from money advice to wellbeing support and accommodation queries.
They're mainly based in University House, but there's also several other information points across campus. Pop in to speak to someone or visit the askUS site for further information.
Take your pick from over 50 student-led societies to get involved with. From dance to kayaking, debating to comedy, there's something for everyone; and even if you can't find what you're looking for, the SU can support you to start up your own.
Within the Students’ Union, you’ll also find Shock Radio - Manchester's biggest student radio station. Similarly, over at our MediaCity campus, we have an industry standard news room where students regularly broadcast for Quays News.
Atmosphere bar is a central student hotspot and ideal meeting place for a post-lecture catchup with friends. Serving a range of hot and cold food and drinks, the space has a large seating area with booths and even a pool table to keep you entertained day and night.
With weekly events such as the 'Out of this World Quiz', karaoke night and Sky/BT Sports screenings for those must-watch big games, there's lots to get involved with once you're a student here. The café next door is an alcohol-free space open till 5pm for breakfast and lunch, and is the perfect place to grab a coffee with friends before your next study session.
We have three common rooms - two on our Peel Park campus (in University House and in our Peel Building) and also one in the Allerton Building on our Frederick Road campus. These spaces are designed for studying, chilling with friends, eating lunch and relaxing before and after lectures. They've been created with commuter students in mind, providing facilities (such as a microwave, kitchen space and charging points) for those without accommodation close by, but can be used by any students. The common rooms also have a TV and games including a giant Connect Four.

Our Sports Centre offers fitness/ strength and conditioning rooms; a 25-metre swimming pool with spa and sauna; a multi-use six court sports hall; squash courts; a dance studio; health hub; floodlit 3G pitch and two grass pitches plus 30+ fitness classes per week including yoga, zumba and pilates.
In addition, our health club offers discounted massage treatments to help you recover after training sessions and relax after a hard days' work.
There are a variety of Eat and Drink on Campus outlets across all our campuses; each with it's own unique offering. You can enjoy dishes from across the world at Maxwell and Allerton restaurants, grab a snack at one of the convenience stores, or build your own sandwich at Chapman Deli Bar and Subway.
Across the road from Maxwell Building, you can choose from a variety of brunch dishes, pastries, cakes and barista-made drinks at The Old Fire Station. The bakery and brewery is a great spot for catching up with friends or grabbing a bite between lectures.
Alternatively, down the road from Salford Crescent station is a McDonald's, so if you're feeling like stretching your legs, head there for a fast food treat (or you can order straight to your accommodation).
Our student stores, located in the heart of campus and also within our Allerton building, provide the daily living essentials for students. The shop on Peel Park campus includes a bakery where you’ll find fresh sandwiches, pastries and pies every morning, and at lunch time, hot dogs and meal deals will give you another option for satisfying your hunger.
If you enjoy the outdoors, then you'll find Peel Park, conveniently located next to Peel Park Quarter student accommodation, is the perfect place for an afternoon walk or an early morning jog before your studies.
The park was opened in 1846 and was one of the first public parks in the country. It has recently undergone a £1.6m refurbishment and features a play area, sports pitches and two sculptures which form part of the Irwell Sculpture Trail.
