University of Salford named as one of the best green spaces in the UK for third year running
The University of Salford is celebrating after being named as one of the best green spaces in the UK for the third year in a row.
Our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses received a prestigious Green Flag Award for the third year running following a ‘mystery shopper’ visit back in July.
Commenting on the quality of the maintenance and facilities on our campus, we received excellent feedback from the judges, who described the space as a “very pleasant environment for students, staff and visitors… with attractive plantings and public spaces, excellent biodiversity and sustainability on show.” The Salford Tree Trail also received an honourable mention.
The Green Flag Award is the international benchmark of high quality and best practice for parks and green spaces. Managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, the award recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces.
Bec Bennett, Head of Environmental Sustainability at the University, said: “We are thrilled to receive another Green Flag Award this year for our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses.
“The last few years has highlighted even further the importance of our green spaces and we are proud to receive this award to recognise the high quality of green space at our University.
“Once again we have received excellent feedback from the judges, a big thanks to our Grounds Maintenance Team who have worked hard to maintain our green spaces for the enjoyment of our students, colleagues and visitors.”
We first achieved the Green Flag Award in 2019 and have maintained it every year since.
Commenting on the good news, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making the University of Salford worthy of a Green Flag Award.
“To meet the requirements demanded by the scheme is testament to the hard work of the staff and volunteers who do so much to ensure that the University of Salford has high standards of horticulture, safety and environmental management and is a place that supports people to live healthy lives.”
