Student Apprentices shortlisted for BusinessLive Awards
Two of University of Salford students have been shortlisted for Apprentice of the Year at the BusinessLive awards 2023, which celebrate amazing apprentices at the heart of the North West business community.
This week the hard earned achievements of apprentices will be honoured and two talented students from Salford, Georgina Ronksley and Christopher Atherton, are a part of this recognition.
Georgina is completing a Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship with Henry Boot Development and has worked hard to become an apprenticeship ambassador, carrying out careers sessions as an enterprise advisor. Her commitment and knowledge has been recognised by her employers who have praised her enthusiasm and abilities to take on increasing responsibilities.
Hamer Boot, Executive Director at HBD, said: “Georgina is such a well-established member of the team at HBD and in the wider group of companies that it is easy to forget that she has only recently completed her professional qualifications. Georgina is a credit to the company in terms of her enthusiasm, willingness to throw herself into new challenges and to work independently.”
Christopher is completing a Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship while working with MGF and has achieved exemplary results when overseeing a team of graduate engineers and technicians and guiding other apprentices. MGF have been extremely impressed as he has constantly taken on a host of new responsibilities, leading him to be promoted to the Regional Team Leader for the South of England. Karen Maxwell, HR / L&D Manager at MGF said: “It’s great news that he has been nominated!”
Both students have been nominated for the Apprenticeship of the Year award, with Georgina’s nomination in the Construction & Property Industries category, and Christopher’s in Engineering and Manufacturing.
Assistant Head of Apprenticeships at Salford, Adele Lochman, said: “I’m delighted to see two of our apprentices shortlisted at the North West Apprenticeship Awards. Georgina and Chris are exceptional apprentices, and I am not surprised they made the shortlist. The feedback from academic staff is excellent and we are really pleased to be involved in the awards. Fingers crossed for Thursday!”
This year’s awards will be led by guest host Ben Hanlin this Thursday Feb 9 and will take place in HOST Social at MediaCityUK at 6:00 pm. The University sponsors the Large Employer of the Year category.
The ceremony will begin with refreshments and the opportunity to network, with the prize-giving taking place at the end of the event.
Tickets can be purchased for our colleagues who want to attend and support our talented young students.
