Festival of Short Film to take over MediaCity campus

Categories: School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology

Students will have access to a range of film screenings, masterclasses and networking events as the Festival of Short Film takes over The University of Salford's MediaCity campus.

Hundreds of students from our creative industry disciplines will get the opportunity to attend a range of events that can help them find their career path within the wider world of film production.

From Tuesday 16 January until Friday 19 January, over 30 events will be available, culminating in the highly-anticipated return of the student-led Salford Film Festival in the Digital Performance Lab on the Friday evening.

The opportunities on offer include a producing masterclasses with film producer Gary Paton from Finite Productions, an exclusive screening of zombie feature Interlopers, directed by BA Film Production graduates Dan Gould and Seth Wilson as well as workshops with camera manufacturers RED, ZEISS and Canon.

Laura Hilliard, Lecturer in Film Production said: “We are really excited for this event which allows our students to attend multiple masterclasses, screenings or lectures that aren’t part of their day-to-day course programme and they can then try out a variety of different experiences.

“It's an opportunity for them to hear from those who aren’t their full-time teachers, speak to those within the industry about job opportunities and explore the routes that they could take after graduation.”

The festival replaces the first week of teaching for the second trimester at the University for Film Production students with all mandated to attend a number of the sessions.

However, it is not restricted to just Film Production students and those studying degrees across the creative industries are encouraged to take advantage of the festival to learn about careers in film.

Laura added: “The MediaCity campus will be full of activity and we would love to see students from a range of different programmes come and be a part of the festival.”

Students are able to book their place on the festival’s courses via the Eventbrite page here with places filling up fast.
