Data Science student secures role at Channel 4

Categories: School of Science, Engineering and Environment

The University of Salford’s postgraduate in Data Science programme is proving to have an impressive track record of students landing a job before they graduate.

Tom Madeley is the latest in a line of Data Science students who have secured a role as a result of his live work placement. As part of Tom’s dissertation, he worked at Channel 4 and has now been offered a permanent job as a Junior Data Scientist starting later this year.

The course prides itself on having unrivalled industry partnerships and providing students live industry links as part of their learning. Tom said: “I chose to return to Salford for my Master’s because of the breadth of the programme taught as well as the 3-month industry placements available at the dissertation stage. I was lucky enough to intern at Channel 4 as a full member of the Data Science team and work on a live project.

“I learned technical skills by working alongside a permanent Data Scientist and it improved my soft skills through the communication of my findings to other teams across the business. The placement was hugely beneficial and effectively bridged the gap between the taught course and the real world giving me invaluable experience before I had even finished the course. “

Wishing Tom lots of luck in his new role.
