Jerome Anokwu presents at the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) International Polyolefins Conference

Categories: School of Science, Engineering and Environment

On 17 February 2025, Jerome Anokwu presented his paper at the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) International Polyolefins Conference in Galveston, Texas, USA.

His research is titled, "Unlocking the Potential of Pyrolysed Mixed Plastic Waste Char as a Reinforcing Filler for Polymer Composites' and focuses on optimising pyrolysis technology to convert plastic waste into valuable by-products, such as fuel and composite materials, contributing to sustainable recycling practices.

At this conference, Jerome presented his latest findings on developing novel composite materials from pyrolysed char. These composites have the potential to not only improve the mechanical properties of plastics but also promote a circular economy for plastic waste management. His research offers a sustainable solution to the growing global challenge of plastic pollution.

He said, "I wanted to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the support of my supervisor, as well as that of the PGR School, which made it possible for me to attend and present my paper at the 2025 Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) International Polyolefins Conference in Galveston, Texas, USA.

As the world’s largest conference dedicated to polyolefins, it provided an invaluable opportunity to share our research, highlight the work we are doing at the University, and contribute to advancing sustainable solutions for plastic waste management.

With over 130 technical presentations, 60+ industrial exhibitors, and 900+ attendees, the conference offered a fantastic platform to not only disseminate findings but also to inspire new research directions. None of this would have been possible without my supervisor's support and the PGR School’s backing, for which I am incredibly grateful."
