Construction Apprentice nominated in ‘Women in Construction’ Awards – votes now open!

Categories: School of Science, Engineering and Environment

A star construction apprentice has been recognised for her outstanding work in the industry with a prestigious nomination.

Over the past two years, Georgia Veevers has been enrolled at The University of Salford, more recently on the Construction Site Management Level 6 apprenticeship,  whilst working at Overbury with the end goal of becoming a Chartered Member of the CIOB. As part of the apprenticeship, she will achieve a BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management Degree. Georgia has worked incredibly hard during her time at the university and this determination has been recognised by her nomination for the ‘Ones to Watch’ award at this year’s Women In Construction awards.

Georgia is part of our successful female alumni that are making waves in the construction industry. Originally, growing up she never knew what she wanted to be, however a conversation with a good friend who works in construction sparked an interest that made her realise there was more to construction than just building. From then on, her academic journey took her through the university and into Overbury, an interior fitting contractor based in Manchester. Whilst there, she has had the fantastic opportunity of project managing a two-week charity project that the company completed for Stockport Race and Equality Partnership, in which she completely refurbished their community centre using volunteers from subcontractors and Overbury. The project was nominated for the Best Community Project 2023 award at the BPIC Awards 2023.

Georgia said: “I am so pleased to have been nominated! Personally, I think by having more women in the industry they will feel more represented and more likely to join the industry if they see that other women are doing it. I also think that not a lot of women, like myself, are aware of the different roles construction has to offer, therefore going into schools and colleges and talking about the industry will attract more females.”

Votes are now open, closing at the end of the month, and you can vote for Georgia by clicking here.

The final awards ceremony will be in London on September 26.
