Success stories: Jaisie Withers
A chartered surveying apprentice at the University of Salford has won two national emerging talent awards.
The annual MACE Emerging Talent ceremony was held at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London and despite being up against a whole group of apprentices from all over the country, Jaisie Withers claimed two of the biggest awards of the night.
Jaisie won the year three Apprentice of the Year award and the Ian Wylie Overall Apprentice award. The latter is an honorary award established on behalf of one of the founders. Having worked for global consultancy and construction firm MACE for the past few years as a quantity surveyor, she has gained essential skills and grown an entire network of people to help her progress in her career.
On the Chartered Apprenticeship course at Salford, which combines classroom-based learning with practical real-world experience, Jaisie said she initially chose to do the course after having researched various schemes and roles available, realising that the MACE apprenticeship offered everything she would have wanted.
Completing her degree apprenticeship as part of the University, Jaisie talked about how much Salford has impacted her journey. She said: “These awards mean so much, especially as the Ian Wiley award honors someone who made such a lasting impact in Mace and on everyone who had the privilege of working with him.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey so far and looking forward to the future! I’ve built a whole new support network.
“Taking initiative is the most important thing. Your career is in your own hands and the opportunities are there, so just go for them.”
