Apprenticeship showcase invites employers to see fantastic student work this April

With apprenticeship courses growing hugely in popularity, The University of Salford is hosting an employer event that invites people from industry to look at student work, take part in sessions and panel discussions about the future of training. The event will showcase the foundation that apprenticeship courses are laying for students and the benefits this can bring to business.

Taking place on Wednesday 24 April 2024 from 12:30 pm until 5:30 pm, the event will begin with networking where student apprentice work will be showcased to employers.

This will then be followed by a keynote session entitled ‘Apprenticeship Perspectives: The Future of Construction in Greater Manchester’ detailing the benefit that apprenticeships have on the next young people going into industry. Among those speaking will be Lisa Bowden, Bid Director at Balfour Beatty, and Daniel Cadman, Regional Director at AtkinsRéalis.

Tours will be given to employers around Salford’s cutting-edge research facilities, including the global climate simulating Energy House 2.0 and 1.0, the carbon-neutral Zed House, and the technical Acoustics Labs and Innovative Maker Space and Civils Lab. Alongside this, ‘Salford Stands’ will be making appearances and will host software demos, funding guidance, employer stands and testimonial stands.

Gareth Whittleston, the Apprentice Lead for the School of Science, Engineering & Environment, and the University of Salford, said: “We have had and still have so many fantastic students who are leading the way in changing industries, and this event will showcase that to amazing employers who will provide opportunities for students. We will showcase the hard work that is done at the university.”

The event is running thanks in part to a grant of more than £220k from the Office for Students designed to increase equality of opportunity for degree apprenticeships.
