BA (Hons) English Multidiscipline
BA (Hons) English Multidiscipline allows you to combine your interests from a range of modules in English literature, English language, drama, and creative writing. You will be encouraged to pursue your passion and develop vital skills needed for a range of exciting careers in areas such as teaching, media, publishing, marketing, and administration.
This English multidiscipline course is taught by expert tutors who deliver a diverse curriculum that engages with culture and identity in the 21st century. Masterclasses with professionals will give you insights into the publishing, theatre, literary, and film industries. You will also explore the therapeutic power of creative writing, the work of drama in social settings, and the application of language to health and social services.
BA (Hons) English Multidiscipline with Foundation Year
If you're interested in our English multidiscipline course, but need additional preparation, our BA (Hons) English Multidiscipline with Foundation Year will help you build your confidence and academic skills.
You'll start by studying a foundation year, which will give you the grounding you need to study English at university. Once you complete the foundation year, you'll progress onto our English multidiscipline degree course, where you'll study a mix of core and optional modules in English literature, language, drama, or creative writing.
BA (Hons) English Literature
Whether you’re a practising poet or a blossoming academic, our BA (Hons) English Literature Clearing course will give you the tools you need to take the first step in your literary career. Over three years, you’ll delve into the world of words, studying literature through diverse theoretical perspectives.
Looking for a course with an interdisciplinary focus? Studying an English literature Clearing course at Salford means you’ll also have the chance to choose from modules specialising in language, theatre, film adaptation, and creative writing.
BA (Hons) English Literature with Foundation Year
If you have a passion for literature but need extra support before starting degree-level study, our BA (Hons) English Literature with Foundation Year will help you bridge the gap.
During your foundation year, you'll get a grounding in key areas like critical thinking, literary theory, and study skills. Once you complete the foundation year, you'll progress onto year one of our English literature degree course.
BA (Hons) English Language
Language is a fundamental part of what makes us human, but how often do we stop and think about it? It’s a crucial tool for us to be able to communicate our understanding of the world around us. Sound interesting? If so, our BA (Hons) English Language Clearing degree is the right option for you.
Designed to delve into the varieties and histories of language, this course will give you the training you need to understand how the written and spoken word is structured and acquired. Analysing a range of perspectives, you’ll also explore how linguistics varies across regions, and how words can help us form identities and influence social change.
BA (Hons) English Language with Foundation Year
If you're interested in studying English language, but need additional support before studying our degree course, consider studying BA (Hons) English Language with Foundation Year.
On your foundation year, you'll study a series of modules that will build your academic skills and confidence, preparing you for the rest of your degree. Once you've completed your foundation year, you will progress onto year one of our English language degree course.
Creative writing courses in Clearing
We offer a multidiscipline degree in creative writing, as well as the option for a foundation year.
BA (Hons) Creative Writing (Multidiscipline)
On our BA (Hons) Creative Writing (Multidiscipline) course, you’ll have access to the wide range of creative writing opportunities Manchester has to offer. You’ll join a thriving community of practising writers, playwrights, and authors, with the chance to flourish in our state-of-the-art campuses in MediaCity and Peel Park – both of which are designed to nurture talent across the city.
Whatever platform or medium you choose to explore, we’ll support you. By taking on one of our creative writing degree Clearing places, you’ll have access to our TV and radio studios, video and audio facilities, and our excellent live performance spaces. Our students, staff and industry also regularly perform shows at our on-campus New Adelphi Theatre to public audiences.
Our creative writing programme is ranked 17th in the UK for creative writing in the Guardian University Guide 2024.
BA (Hons) Creative Writing (Multidiscipline) with Foundation Year
If you want to study creative writing at university, but need additional preparation before you start, then BA (Hons) Creative Writing (Multidiscipline) with Foundation Year is ideal for you.
A foundation year will boost your academic skills, build your confidence, and develop your wider subject knowledge. Once you’ve completed your foundation year, you’ll progress onto the first year of our creative writing degree course, which is designed to inspire and nurture your writing talent, whether you want to explore comedy writing, screenwriting, radio podcasting, theatre, or more.
