Postgraduate research

Three students in conversation

At the University of Salford, we are committed to solving many of the complex challenges society faces today, through pioneering challenge-led research and solutions-focused enterprise. We have a large community of research students across eight different research centres. All our researchers have access to our Doctoral School, where we offer student support and training to help you become the best researcher you can be.

Research degrees offer you the flexibility to carry out your own research project under direct supervision of an academic member of staff. You can study towards a Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Professional Doctorate (DProf) or MSc by Research.

Our current students undertake research across a variety of topic areas including Art and Design, English and Creative Writing, Linguistics, Media, Music, Performance, Politics and Contemporary History.
