Studio space
The New Adelphi building has two floors of flexible studio space, with each course having its dedicated area. They offer lots of natural light and room for you to work on your projects.
Print workshop
Who says print is dead? You’ll be able to use the workshop to explore a range of new and traditional techniques, from etching, aquatint and screen print to monoprint, lino print and photoetch; you’ll find the right equipment to bring your ideas to life.
Fibre and textiles workshop
Sewing machines, felting machines and looms are just some of the kits available here for you to use when working with textiles.
Photography studios
We have seven fully-equipped studios, just like those used by the professionals, available for use. To get the best out of them, you’ll also be able to use a range of cameras, including Canon DSLRs and medium format cameras such as Phase Ones and the Hasselblad H series, and a range of lighting equipment. It’s all industry-standard and will prepare you for stepping into the studio or on location when you begin your professional assignments.
Darkrooms
We have two sets of darkrooms available for a range of image processing. Our New Adelphi space allows for more experimental photography processing, while those in the nearby Peel building feature enlargers for more conventional printing.
MakerSpace
Depending on your course, you may need to create a range of physical items, from product prototypes to models.
Our MakerSpace is another facility available for you to bring your designs to life using 3D scanners and printers, power tools and a range of art and craft materials. Experienced technicians are also on hand to show you how everything works and make sure you know exactly how to get the best from the equipment.
Mac suites
Equipped with the industry-standard software you’ll need during your studies and in the world of work.
Wood and metal workshops
Various saws, drills, sanders and welders will allow you to incorporate both wood and metal elements into your projects and creations.
Rapid prototyping workshop
You bring your ideas from the page to reality in this space, which features 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines and vacuum formers. It opens up a range of opportunities for you to bring your ideas to life.
What if I don't know how to use some of the facilities you have listed above?
When you study on any of our art and design degree courses, you'll have access to our facilities, no matter what course you study. We have invested over £55million in art and design facilities at our New Adelphi building, in order to give you the space and support to unleash your creativity while you study with us.
Don’t worry if you don’t know how to use everything when you arrive! We employ specialist Technical Demonstrators, who will teach you how to use our cutting-edge facilities and equipment, and support you throughout the learning process.
Do your art and design students get a chance to see professional artists' work within the New Adelphi Art Gallery?
The New Adelphi building houses it's very own exhibition gallery, run by the Salford Art Collection. It's a permanent professional space that hosts exhibitions in conjunction with other gallery archives such as Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool, professional artists, and alumni such as Heather Glazzard, Mollie Balshaw, Sadé Mica and SHARP.
Your main opportunity to showcase your work will be at the annual Degree Show. This event celebrates your achievements and gives you the chance to present your work to the industry, your peers, and friends and family.
Am I able to access all the facilities no matter what art and design course I'm on?
Yes, our excellent technical demonstrating team run workshops in all the facilities for you to get involved with outside of your modules. You can learn industry-standard arts and design software, photography techniques and equipment, printmaking, machinery skills, and much more.
How do I get to and view your facilities?
If you're keen to see the facilities you could be using when you study with us, we recommend attending an upcoming Undergraduate Open Day or Postgraduate Open Day.

By rail:
Salford Crescent train station is directly between our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses. Direct services run to and from Manchester Airport, Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria, and Blackpool, Bolton, Buxton, Blackburn, Southport, Preston and Lancaster.
By bus:
Staff and current students can travel between Peel Park and MediaCity for free using the 50 bus. The number 50 runs every 10-15 minutes between East Didsbury and MediaCity via our Peel Park campus.
