I combined the two A-Level subjects that I enjoyed the most to decide on a course. I looked at the prospectuses of universities that were far enough to move away but close enough to get home easily, then made a shortlist and attended open days where I even met one of my now best friends.

I was the first in my family to go to university and it was important to me to study something I enjoyed. To narrow down universities, I looked at the league tables for my subject then attended lots of open days to find what I wanted.

I didn't know anyone who had been to university. My friends were set on their choices and stay local to our small village. I wanted to move away and be in a big city full of opportunities to make friends, study, and work. I used UCAS to choose a course and then explored the city myself.

Finding the right university for me meant being on campus. Open Days and interviews gave me the chance to go and look for myself and I knew it was the right place when I first set foot there. The location, facilities, and the feel of the place was exactly what I wanted.

I always knew I wanted to move away from home and experience a more industry-focused approach. I did my research and decided I wanted to move to the UK. I attended a few Open Days, online tours, and used social media to chat with students who helped me make my decision.

I knew I wanted to move out and live in halls so I made a shortlist of universities that had the right course and were far enough away. I went to every Open Day on that list to get a feel of the place before making my final decision as that was the most important factor for me.
Becky Emmerson

I knew I loved animals and wanted to move away to study, but as I was the first in my family to go to university there wasn't much knowledge on how to get there. I made a shortlist for my course, visited an open day to see if it was for me, and made my decision on the train home.

I knew I wanted to go to university but didn't know what to study. I combined two subjects together and chose to go to a London based university. I ended up not enjoying the course I had chosen and dropped out after 3 weeks. I re-applied, this time doing more research, found my course at Salford and never looked back.
