How will I study the environment?
There’s never been a more important time to study the environment. If you study geography here, you will develop practical skills to address global challenges.
Field trips
Fieldwork is an essential part of every geography and environmental management course at Salford. The best news is that field trips are funded by us (but you may need to consider additional costs such as food and spending money).
We’ve aligned our trips with specialist modules, so you can develop applied skills and gain practical experience. Example destinations include the Lake District, Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales, Sheffield and Liverpool. You’ll also participate in residential field courses across the UK and other international locations, such as our recent visits to Scandinavia and Barcelona.
Laboratory Practicals
As a geography or environmental management student, you will be taught in our state-of-the-art, integrated teaching laboratory known as the Bodmer Lab. You will take part in environmental laboratory sessions to complement your field work and theoretical studies.
Studying in our specialist, purpose-built Bodmer Lab means that you will benefit from the latest technologies to support your learning and remain on the cutting edge of innovation and discovery.
Lectures and Tutorials
Lectures and tutorials are a key part of building your theoretical knowledge base in geography and environmental management. You will experience teaching from our highly-skilled lecturers, who have real-world experience working as environmental consultants in the field and are active researchers in their specialised areas.
During your studies, you will experience a modern learning environment, with accessible lecture theatres and AV-equipped classrooms, computing suites and multimedia libraries, with access to industry journals, databases, and simulation software.
Self-directed Study
Take control of your own learning. Our Clifford Whitworth Library has physical and virtual resources to support your architecture studies. This modern learning space includes computing suites and multimedia libraries, with access to journals, databases, and software.
With an onsite café, breakout areas, comfy chairs and 24-hour access, it is the perfect place for writing up tutorial notes and researching assignments - day or night!
