How will I study the built environment?
We use a range of learning approaches to help you build the knowledge from our experienced academic team with a range of external guest lecturers, placements, and career networking opportunities. Alongside lectures and tutorials that are the core of learning, we use our industry focus and amazing location to take you out on-site visits.

Throughout your chosen course, you will be taught in a modern learning environment, with accessible lecture theatres, carefully designed studios consisting of AV-equipped classrooms, computing suites and multimedia libraries, with access to industry journals, databases, and industry software.
Tutorials
Lectures and tutorials are a key part of building your knowledge base. During your built environment study, you will experience teaching from our highly-skilled lecturers, who have real-world experience in their field and are active researchers in their specialist subjects.
Energy House Laboratories
We’re home to the Energy House Laboratories – a unique suite of fully climate-controlled research facilities. These impressive labs are helping us to lead the way in reimagining energy use in our built environment, providing even more advanced research facilities, and enhancing our testing capacity.
Full-sized fully furnished house
Our original Energy House is the world’s only full sized, fully furnished two-bedroom terraced house built inside an environmental chamber that can replicate almost any weather conditions. Packed with a vast array of sensors, our students, researchers, and industry partners use this to identify energy efficiency opportunities.
Energy House 2.0
This year, we also commissioned the £16 million Energy House 2.0 and it’s the largest test facility of its type. This new facility consists of two environmental chambers and will be a key role in accelerating the progress towards low carbon and net zero housing design.
