Is a Sports Science degree worth it?
Adam's Story
I graduated from the Sports Science course at Salford in 2020. I chose to study the performance analysis pathway as this is an area within sport, in particular football, which I find interesting.
Why Salford?
I chose to study at Salford for two main reasons. Firstly, the Sports Science programme is among the best around and with the facilities that are available, I have consequently been able to gain valuable experience which will help me when I begin to work in sport. Secondly, I commute to and from university and as there is a train station on campus this is a massive help.
I found the support from most lecturers and staff extremely helpful, particularly Paul Jones during both 2nd and 3rd year and especially during the completion of my dissertation. Also, Mark Quinn who provided constant feedback during my assignments which allowed me to achieve high marks.
Is a degree in Sports Science worth it?
The best thing about the Sports Science programme is that the equipment available to use in all aspects of sport is fantastic. Whether you’re interested in Performance Analysis, Strength and Conditioning, Physiology or Biomechanics, each area has top of the range equipment readily available to help you prepare for life working in sport.
During my 3rd year, I did work placement at Manchester City as a Performance Analyst within the academy. During this time gained invaluable experience using various pieces of equipment and analysis software found within an elite sporting environment.
What can you do with a degree in Sports Science?
I am now looking forward to completing my Master’s course in Performance Analysis in Sport, which the Sports Science programme has helped me to prepare for. I will also continue working at Manchester City as a casual Performance Analyst whilst completing my studies.
