How We Support You

Support Your Wellbeing

We all have mental health in the same way that we all have physical health, it is part of us and we cannot ignore it or take it for granted. Like our physical health, we need to be aware of when it deteriorates and try to keep it in prime condition. Like physical health, if we let it deteriorate it can lead to a range of problems that can affect our life significantly.

Mental health difficulties can be heightened through a lack of established support (friends and family). Students already living with a mental health difficulty can experience difficulties trying to adapt to a new environment and routine.

All students and staff have access to free counselling or sessions at the university. Counselling is a talking therapy that takes place in a safe, trusting non-judgemental environment. Everything that occurs within a counselling session, except in the most exceptional of circumstances, is kept confidential and information is not shared unless you give us permission or it is in your best interests that we do so.

Students looking for support can also contact our Wellbeing Service. This differs to counselling in that our Wellbeing Advisors have a good knowledge of mental health but are not in a position to diagnose mental health conditions. The advantage of seeing a Wellbeing Advisor is that you can discuss any personal issue and they will offer you a space to explore them, support you in looking at your options and help you to take any next steps.

Support Your Studies

Open Door Policy

Your lecturers are here to guide you through the course. No need to make an appointment between dedicated times, if you have an academic issue that needs to be discussed, your tutors will be on hand to talk to you and help resolve any problems.

Support Your Ambition

Do you have a brilliant business idea but are unsure of the next steps? Are you thinking of going freelance? The University can help you turn your idea into reality and support you through all the vital steps of setting up in business.

Launch@Salford is the university's incubation hub for student start-ups. As well as providing academic and emotional support, Salford Business School also provides funds, resources and training for any student with a great business idea and the motivation to get it done.

Finance and Money Matters

The cost of university can be a major concern for applicants and their supporters, but the most important thing to note is that there are no upfront costs for tuition fees, and any repayments will be linked to your graduate salary once you reach a certain threshold for payment.

askUS is available for advice surrounding finance for housing and cost of living.

Student Loans

Tuition fee loans are provided by the Student Loans Company and applications are made to Student Finance England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland as appropriate. We would encourage applicants to apply for their student finance as soon as possible to ensure their finances are in place for the new academic year.

Student Stories...

Two members of staff in business school support room

Business Management with Law student, Safa Mirza, shares her appreciation for the SPA team and the support offered to her.

"To those students who feel like they are going through a rough patch or need any sort of guidance/support, make sure you go directly to the SPA team as they will help. I can't explain how much [their] help meant to me. I was in a position where I was not sure where my mental health was heading - I was already suffering with anxiety and depression and [the team] helped me out in so many ways that I can't even explain. [They] supported me and guided me so much that I now have completed my BSc degree in Business Management & Law. I'm over the moon!"

Meet Adina Nelu

Alumnus Adina was awarded the Santander CEO Fund for emerging businesses after taking part in our Launch@Salford Business Incubator.

"Finding out that I was one of the three recipients of the award was especially motivating because it showed me that my work was being appreciated and was worth supporting. Receiving this award made a huge difference in the impact that the pandemic had on my wellbeing – an outcome that was impossible to guess at the time of my application."
