Biography
Dr Yun Chen is Associate Professor, Subject Group Head and Research Cluster Co-Lead at Salford Business School. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE), and an Advance HE-certified External Examiner. With a PhD in Information Systems and a background in computer science, Yun adopts a socio-technical approach in her work, ensuring that digital technology applications are both effective and ethically responsible. She also represents the University as a member of the CyberFirst Northwest Advisory Group and serves on the UKVI ESRC Review Panel.
Areas of Research
Yun’s research focuses on the integration of digital technologies in business, society and Higher Education (HE), underpinned by effective digital transformation strategies. Her work examines how emerging technologies can optimise business operations, enhance education delivery, and drive sustainable development. She has contributed to several national and international collaborative research projects, playing a key role in developing information systems, formulating digital transformation strategies, and fostering responsible collaboration between humans and technology. Yun supervises research in the fields of digital transformation, information systems, and responsible technology adoption. She is particularly interested in projects that examine the ethical implications of digital innovation, ensuring that technology is implemented in a human-centred and sustainable manner.
Areas of Supervision
Dr Chen currently supervising PhD students on the topics of Digital Innovation in UK SMEs, M-learning in Higher Education, Digital Transformation.
Dr. Yun Chen teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, subjects relating to Business Disruptive Technologies, Operations and Information Management, Digital Marketing Strategy and Technologies, Information Systems and Digital Transformation, M-Commerce, and the Digital Workplace. She adopts a Blended Active Learning approach to enhance student engagement and integrate theory with practice. Additionally, Yun has served as an External Examiner at four universities, contributing to the sharing of best practices in HE.
