Biography
I am a Lecturer at the University of Salford, specialising in online, long-form, hyperlocal, lifestyle and magazine journalism. I am a fellow of the Higher Education Institute. I am the academic lead on SalfordNow.Co.Uk - the university's student-led news website.
I have been a writer and editor in digital and print across websites and magazines for 25 years. I have experience in editing, subbing, layout (Quark and InDesign), online publishing (Wordpress, Medium, Substack, Shorthand), SEO, social media and multimedia.
I specialise in automotive, tech, politics, business, leisure, culture and lifestyle.
I have worked as a Visiting Lecturer at four British universities, teaching undergraduate and MA students at the University of Sunderland, University of the Westminster, UCLAN and at the University of Salford.
I am an experienced motoring journalist of over ten years, having launched websites, written books and driven monster trucks over police cars in the industry.
I co-founded the award-winning SevenStreets.com - a widely-respected leisure and culture website about Liverpool - and the Almanac print version. Liverpool Underlined, a city guide for tourists, followed. I was Editor-At-Large for the Manchester Mill Offshoot The Liverpool Post.
Other freelance outlets include New Statesman, All About History, WhatsOnStage and National Museums Liverpool.
I am interested in hyperlocal journalism and convergence in the industry and pursuing a PhD by Publication on these subjects.
