Biography
Current positions:
Head of Chemical Sciences, Reader in Biochemistry, Scientific Director of Kidscan
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and a PhD from the University of Manchester. I teach at levels 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 in a number of subject areas, including Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences within the School of Science, Engineering and Environment. I have more than 30-years’ experience in cancer research and glycobiology and have a diverse portfolio of research publications.
I am currently the scientific director of Kidscan, which is a children’s cancer research charity that operates from the University of Salford. In addition, to supporting national research into the treatment of children’s cancer; Kidscan also offers an undergraduate placement scheme that allows Salford undergraduates to complete an industrial placement with Kidscan funded researchers.
My interest in science policy h
as allowed me to contribute to national policy making by working with the learned societies. I held a trustee role for the Biochemical Society for many years and I am currently a trustee of the Oil and Colour Chemistry Association (OCCA).
