New Adelphi Facilities
The creative heart of our university
The £55m New Adelphi building is an inspirational creative space on our Peel Park campus.
Set over seven floors, arranged around a light flooded atrium and featuring the 350 seat New Adelphi Theatre at its heart, it provides our music, performance, art, design and architecture students with a highly collaborative and professional learning environment.
As well as the New Adelphi Theatre, the building features a 140 square metre studio theatre, two large TV acting studios, five industry standard recording studios, 12 amplified music rehearsal spaces, two dance studios, three floors of dedicated wood, metal, textiles, print and plastics workshops, seven photographic studios, 14 instrumental tuition rooms, a double height 100 square metre band-room/live room and a suite of flexible performance and studio spaces.
Commercially it offers businesses a first class conference venue, lets creative freelancers access specialist maker facilities and allows musicians, actors and performers to rehearse and record as well as inviting the public to enjoy a diverse selection of innovative art, dance and theatre productions throughout the year.
Since its opening in 2016, the New Adelphi has hosted the premiere of The Arsonists, an opera sung entirely in Yorkshire dialect and has provided rehearsal and recordings for Philip Glass and performer-director Phelim McDermott for their Manchester International Festival 2019 collaboration 'Tao of Glass'.
As part of its seasons of work, the New Adelphi Theatre features the annual premiere of the physically charged and daring dance work of Emergence, the postgraduate dance company of Joss Arnott Dance and the University of Salford, smash-hit comedy show Amusical; a celebration by the comedy world of all things musical theatre, hosted by award-winning Jayde Adams and alumnus Kiri Pritchard-McLean and many curricular festivals and concerts that showcase the work of performance, dance, music and film students across BA (Hons) and MA courses.
The New Adelphi Theatre regularly partners with local artists and organisations to cultivate a creative and cultural exchange between communities, staff and students, and the artists they work with, through producing and programming high-quality artistic experiences.
In 2019 the New Adelphi Theatre team collaborated with renowned Anglo-Belgium Contemporary Performance Company Reckless Sleepers, the University of Salford’s ICZ Media Production Team and the world’s leading educational platform for the performing arts, Digital Theatre+ to capture the final performance of Negative Space in the UK.
The theatre continues to stimulate curious minds and provides a unique environment for arts and culture in the university and our community.
