How will I study mechanical engineering?
The Salford Experience Mechanical Engineering
Bringing together science and technology, engineering relies on strong theoretical knowledge and creative flair which is why we use a range of stimulating learning approaches at Salford.
If you apply to study our mechanical engineering degree, you will have an immersive practical experience in our fantastic brand-new SEE building with a range of external guest lecturers, placements, and amazing location at the heart of Greater Manchester to take you out on-site visits.
Lab based learning
We know how important it is to leave with plenty of practical hands-on experience which is why we provide you with the engineering laboratories so that you gain an understanding of engineering thermodynamics and finite element analysis concepts and the chance to put your knowledge into action.
LIFE IN THE NEW BUILD
Our new SEE building is nearly complete, and this will consist of an impressive Morson Maker Space, equipped with 3D printing machines, laser and vinyl cutters, and working spaces to assemble electronics and build drones.
BUILD TECHNICAL SKILLS
With a rapid development of technology, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence, you will gain experience using software to test emerging techniques and technologies which you will come across in your career with industry. Study at Salford where we will help you build practical and professional skills you need as a Mechanical Engineer!
MAKE FRIENDS FOR LIFE
University life is more than just working hard and getting a degree – it’s also an opportunity to meet like-minded people and make great friends for life. On our engineering courses, we get you involved in industry events, competitions, and field trips where you can apply the skills you learn throughout your degree.
REAL LIFE PROJECTS
With plenty of opportunities to collaborate with other students, Formula Student is the world’s largest student-led motorsport event connecting students from across the world to compete in building a track grade race car. Salford established a team to compete against other universities at Silverstone. In 2018 and 2019, our team made it to the finals!
PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES
More importantly, we want you to experience group projects and collaborate with others to build your team working skills and confidence, so you’ll have the opportunity to participate in projects and competitions to enhance your professional and personal skills.
LECTURES AND TUTORIALS
Lectures and tutorials are a key part of building your theoretical knowledge base in your chosen field of engineering.
You will experience teaching from our award-winning, highly skilled lecturers, who are active researchers in their specialist subjects to prepare you for the real world.
MODERN LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
During your studies, you will experience a modern learning environment, with accessible lecture theatres and AV-equipped classrooms, computing suites and multimedia libraries, with access to industry journals, databases, and simulation software.
