The University of Salford joins the COP26 Universities Network

The mission of the COP26 Universities Network is to ensure the academic sector has a voice when tackling climate change issues, giving them direct access to world leaders with whom they can share their expertise and advice. 

Mike Brown, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the University of Salford said: "Climate change is one of, if not the biggest challenge facing the world, and I'm proud to say that the University of Salford is leading the way in a number of key areas. We have a portfolio of projects: Energy House 2.0 is a globally unique facility and Energy House Labs are recognised by industry as leaders in energy efficiency in buildings. We are a lead partner in IGNITION with the University being transformed into a living lab, our environmental consultancy AquaUoS is helping return rivers to their natural state and increasing bio-diversity and THINKlab, our research facility that explores digital future technologies, has been working on the MOBILISE platform that is helping to reduce the impact of natural disasters on risk-sensitive communities. 

"Being part of the COP26 Universities Network gives us the opportunity to present our knowledge and expertise in the area of climate change to a global audience and allows us to work together to deliver a low-carbon resilient world. I want to ensure we capture the work of all our academics and I'd like to encourage colleagues working in climate change related areas to register on the COP26 Universities Network Directory of Experts. 

"Prior to COP26, members of the Universities Network are being invited to an online event that will allow us to bring our research to the forefront and play an active role in the delivery of COP26."

COP26 is scheduled to take place in November 2021 and will be held in Glasgow. Politician Alok Sharma, an alumni of the University of Salford, was appointed COP26 President by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in January 2021.
