University of Salford Annual Law Lecture: 25 Years Old The Human Rights Act 1998
The University of Salford would like to invite all members of the public, legal professionals and those in related industries, students from across the region and beyond, to the Salford Business School's Annual Law Lecture chaired by Dr Sally Penni.
Mr Justice Fordham surveys some of the leading cases and discusses how the 1998 Human Rights Act has operated in our courts
The lecture will be held in Lecture Theatre G14, Lady Hale Building. Our recommended parking is at Irwell Place car park, M5 4PE; it can be found on this campus map under the section for ‘Car Parks’.

About Mr Justice Fordham
Mike Fordham is a High Court Judge. He is the Liaison Judge for the Administrative Court in the North (Leeds and Manchester) and is active in diversity and inclusion outreach work, including hosting student visits and student shadowing at the Civil Justice Centre in Manchester. He is also the Master of Students at Gray’s Inn. Mike is state-school educated and was a barrister for 30 years, specialising in public law and human rights, arguing some 75 cases in the Supreme Court and House of Lords. He won awards including Human Rights Lawyer of the Year, Public Law QC of the Year and the Bar Pro Bono Award. He also taught law part-time throughout his 30 years as a practitioner and was Visiting Fellow at the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law. Mike is author of the Judicial Review Handbook, has given many lectures and talks and has written many published articles.
