Salford's Emergence is Highly Commended at 2025 Educate North Awards

Categories: School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology

The University of Salford was a winner at this year's Educate North Awards.

Emergence, the School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology's pre-professional industry-leading dance company, was named Highly Commended in the Heart Creative Arts Award category at the ceremony in Manchester city centre last night.

The programme, which is run in collaboration with Joss Arnott Dance, supports students studying on our MA Dance: Performance and Professional Practices course and seeks to fill the gap in the North West between education and the dance industry. Firmly rooted in the North West's dance ecology, Emergence also runs high quality workshops within schools and thrills audiences around the country each year with a nationwide professional tour (which began at the New Adelphi Theatre last month).

Debbie Milner, Subject Group Head for Dance and Programme Leader for MA Dance: Performance and Professional Practices, said: "The Educate North Awards panel's recognition of our programme is a testament to its exceptional quality and the significant impact of the partnership between the University of Salford and Joss Arnott Dance.

“Being awarded Highly Commended is a wonderful acknowledgement of our efforts and the successes of the programme, as well as the graduates who are achieving their career ambitions and making a significant impact on the regional dance infrastructure and the wider world of the arts.”

The Educate North Awards recognise and celebrate world class achievements across the University, Higher Education, Further Education and Sixth Form sectors throughout the North of England. Established in 2015, the awards are run in collaboration with Heart Yorkshire, Smooth North West and Smooth North East.

The University had four entries shortlisted for the awards last night with Salford Business School's Professor Francine Morris up for the Leadership and Innovation Award, The Centre for Sustainable Innovation was up for the Innovation Award for online learning platform KnowDigital and the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (of which the University is a partner) were in the running for the Student Experience Award.
