Salford nurses celebrated on International Nurses’ Day (2019)

The University of Salford is marking the day with a special thank you to acknowledge the incredible work of our nursing staff.

Professor Margaret Rowe, Dean of the School of Health and Society at the university, said: “Nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and care workers are currently working in the most challenging of situations. It is with great pride that the University of Salford stands with our community, as we continue to provide this exceptional workforce with the training and support they need at this time.

“It is fitting that today also marks the final training session we are delivering for clinical staff working at the new NHS Nightingale Hospital North West. Our teams have provided specially developed training to around 200 staff over the last five weeks.

“In my long career as an adult and children’s nurse, I have been involved in many developments and changes within nursing, both within higher education and in the NHS. I am extremely proud of the work that staff and students at the University of Salford have done to develop nursing education which is fit for the future. 

“We are humbled by the resilience, commitment and motivation of our students during this pandemic, as they work with our partners in the NHS to ensure that patients are given the best possible care in some of the most difficult situations.

“Nursing is a dynamic profession where you positively impact on other people’s lives, with opportunities to work across many different environments and undertake a variety of roles. It is both an extremely rewarding and challenging career. We are part of a team of exceptional health care workers providing care, giving hope and ensuring that dignity is preserved.

“I want to thank all the student and qualified nurses in Greater Manchester and beyond for all you do, the hard work and dedication you are showing at this time of need.”

The University of Salford offers courses in all branches of nursing training (adult, child, mental health, learning disability, joint nursing/social work). From September 2020, students will receive a bursary from the government to undertake nursing education.
