More than a dozen of the University of Salford’s most talented BA Fashion Design graduates showcased their designs in a fashion show in China earlier this month.

The prestigious runway show, directed and produced by the esteemed SinoUK and Zhejiang Fashion Institute of Technology and was held at the Ningbo Bang Museum in China, and was live streamed to over 80,000 viewers, with Chinese and international fashion industry delegates alike praising the professionalism of the Salford student’s designs.

The graduates were presented with the unique opportunity to feature both menswear and womenswear designs on an impressive 50-metre runway. The event was captured in stunning 4K by an array of cameras and professional lighting equipment.

Known as one of the leading fashion programs across the UK, the BA Fashion Design programme continued to push the boundaries of their students’ creativity and innovation with this show, providing them with the invaluable experience of presenting their work overseas.

Dominic Barber, Lecturer in BA Fashion Design, said: “The individuality and professionalism of each collection was evident, from sportswear to conceptual sculpture, elegance to rugged streetwear, the range was extraordinary."

Katie Hudson, a BA Fashion Design graduate, said: ‘It was an incredibly surreal experience, and we were able to capture stunning video footage and photos to enhance our portfolios.”

Fellow graduate Megan Tong, added: “The attention to detail in both the location and production was impressive, and I was amazed by the number of people involved in bringing such an outstanding show to life.”

This event not only highlighted the aspirational journey of our students but also underscored the University’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural academic exchanges. It offered BA Fashion Design programme graduates the rare opportunity to demonstrate their work within another cultural context and engage with diverse industry standards.

Bashir Aswat, Programme Lead for BA Fashion Design, said: “We are immensely proud of our graduates who have been selected for this extraordinary event. It is a reflection of their hard work, our program’s dedication to excellence, and our commitment to providing a global platform for our students.

“This showcase in Ningbo was not just a runway; it was a launchpad for the next generation of fashion leaders.”

Emma Davidson, Managing Director at international recruitment company Denza, described the opportunities that the University of Salford offers to BA Fashion Design students as ‘unparalleled’.

She said: “Fabric sourcing trips, shooting collections in outstanding locations, and collaborating with international universities in the unique way Salford does, creates talent for all areas of the industry.”
