Salford climbs five places in the Guardian University Guide
The newly published Guardian University Guide 2023 has placed Salford at 89th, which is a five-place rise from last year.
The Guide ranks universities through nine different scores, which form a total out of 100.
These include what students say about teaching, feedback and courses in the annual National Student Survey. This year they combined 2021 and 2022 to reflect how universities responded to the pandemic.
They also look at how big class sizes are through the student-to-staff ratio and how much universities spend on teaching per student, as well as students’ A-level grades and whether their academic performance improves at university (the value-added score), and how likely they are to continue with their course. There’s also data on how many students get graduate jobs 15 months after leaving university.
The Guide also draws together 66 separate league tables by subject level. Stand-out results for Salford are in the areas of Creative Writing (ranked 8th), Social Work (ranked 9th), Fashion and Textiles (ranked 10th) and Physics (ranked 11th).
