University of Salford Business School and its partners, Ahead In Sport, have been nominated for a prestigious football award.
Held on September 23 in a glitzy ceremony in London, The Football Business Awards will bring together high-profile names in the sport to recognise those who have made special achievements in the past twelve months.
Football and Education specialists Ahead In Sport, along with the university, have been nominated in the Best Business Serving Football category for the unique and innovative BSc (Hons) Applied Football Studies which provides a flexible HE option for those in the football industry. The ceremony was due to be held this summer but was delayed by covid.
Combining industry expertise and research within an academic qualification, Applied Football Studies is the UK's first jointly-developed online only undergraduate degree for the football industry and provides players and support staff with the opportunity to access Higher Education provision alongside their existing football commitments.
Programme Leader at Salford, Nicola Mccullough, said: “This nomination is a fantastic achievement after just 18 months of delivery and it is testament to the passion and dedication of all internal and external colleagues and partners that have believed in the course from its inception. The award is also a reflection of the hard work and commitment from all of our students on the course and their enthusiasm and motivation to enhance their own learning, development and future career prospects.”
From professional football players to those in player facing support roles, this course is of interest to anyone who works or volunteers in football across all levels of the game.
Joel Roberts, Director of Operations at Ahead in Sport, said: “We are delighted that our course has been recognised like this.
“We are extremely proud of our collaboration with the Business School and the capability of our programme, through its innovative use of technology, to support those who wish to turn their passion for football into a sustainable career.”
Among other football organisations on the shortlist for awards are both Manchester clubs, as well as Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Rangers.
