New nursing degree delivered at Bury College gains accreditation

Categories: School of Health and Society

A course giving student nurses the opportunity to train with the University of Salford at Bury College’s new Health and Digital Centre has gained accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The first year of Adult Nursing  developed by Bury College in partnership with the University of Salford, will be taught by university staff on the college campus. Thanks to a £9+ million investment in the brand-new Health and Digital Centre, students will benefit from a wide range of state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities.

Students will then undertake their second and third year at the main university campus. Here, facilities include Clinical Practice Wards, designed to give the look and feel of a real hospital environment; clinical skills rooms that enhance student learning from taking blood pressure, to giving CPR and more complicated procedures; and hi-tech patient simulators that can mimic everything from the common cold to a major heart condition.

Students will also gain experience on local placements in hospital and community settings, both in the NHS and independent sector, working alongside qualified practice assessors and supervisors.

Paul Ward, Director of International and Regional Development at the University of Salford said: "We are delighted to be partnering with Bury College to offer this new course, which will give learners the opportunity to gain skills in areas where we know there is high employer demand.

“The access to state-of-the-art facilities at both Bury College and the University of Salford means our graduates will be prepared to enter into their chosen industry with the confidence and experience employers are looking for.”

Lisa Matthews, Curriculum Director for Adult Provision and Higher Education at Bury College added: “This is a significant development for the college and Greater Manchester. It enables us to make a direct positive impact on addressing the national shortage of skilled, qualified nurses. Our investment in a brand new state-of-the-art teaching and learning centre will give students access to industry standard facilities helping to prepare them for progression directly into the nursing profession.  We see the partnership with the University of Salford as an exceptional opportunity and look forward to seeing it go from strength-to-strength.”
