New business aims to take the airline announcement sector by storm
Two University of Salford graduates have launched a new business, providing pre-recorded announcements and background music for commercial aircraft within the aviation industry.
David Bilsborough, who graduated from the MSc Audio Production course in 2015, found that there was an opportunity in the market for a dedicated end-to-end production of pre-recorded announcements for airlines, and formed ‘Nuntiare Media’ alongside his business partner, Daniel Bottomley, a graduate of the BSc Professional Sound & Video Technology course, shortly after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
David said: “Following my studies at Salford I worked as a recording engineer for a period of time before searching for something more technically unique and started with an aviation media content service provider working in their legacy systems department with Daniel. In spring/summer 2020 our company reassessed their business structure and looked to move away from the area we operated in, so we formed Nuntiare Media and pitched to take this work on both from and in partnership with them, providing opportunity to build this new company.”
The aim of Nuntiare Media, based in the Sharp Project in Manchester, is to offer a complete end-to-end production service providing scripting, translation, voice recording, technical processing and delivery. The final products are rigorously quality tested to adhere to the required specifications governed by system manufacturers and industry bodies.
Once the project is complete, the client receives the media, either digitally or in a physical media format allowing the announcements to be loaded to onboard reproduction systems and played in the cabin during flights.
Nuntiare Media has worked with companies all across the world, from the Middle-East, Asia, America and Europe with major airlines such as Etihad Airways, Tigerair Taiwan and Viva Aerobus.
The announcements Nuntiare Media supply cover a broad range of onboard functions from vital safety briefings and emergency messages through to welcome greetings and duty-free sales offers along with general passenger notifications, all covered across a multitude of languages allowing airlines to serve travellers from across the globe.
Pre-recorded announcements are also providing to be an essential tool in the fight against Covid-19, keeping passengers informed and up to date with health and safety advice whilst onboard and for the countries they are travelling to.
David and Daniel hope in the near future to expand Nuntiare’s product offering and branch out into different forms of transport and even to ground based business.
Nuntiare Media has partnered up with the University of Salford’s business incubator, Launch @Salforduni. Launch was set up in 2018, as a way for business to gain advice on how to get set up and aiding both students and alumni on their business ventures. David got in contact with them after being referred by one of Salford’s business advisors.
David said: “After starting the business, we were receiving advice from business advisors with Salford Advantage who then recommended we apply for the Salford Launch October cohort. Launch helped us hone and refine our ideas and plans into a viable business. Whilst we were confident with and intimately knew the technical requirements for this venture the aspects of business management such as finances, marketing & sales were where Launch really helped us out and guided us through the learning curve.”

Applications are open to join Cohort 6 of the Launch Business Incubator.
