A Salford University student who was named future lawyer of the year and earnt himself a training contract at one of the top law firms in the country can now add a first-class law degree to his achievements.
Jack Whittaker, from Bolton, graduated at a ceremony today at the Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays, with his proud family watching on.
Throughout Jack’s three years at Salford University, he maintained marks above 70 in all 18 modules covered by his course.
He said: “I think it’s just a clear representation of the teaching here at Salford. I’ve found every single module so engaging and I think that’s why I’ve been able to maintain such high grades.”
“The tutors are incredible; they’ve given such a positive attitude and intriguing aspect to each module that it made me want to delve deeper into each component during my independent studying. Law is so diversified and the fact that we get to study 18 different modules here at Salford is incredible and not only enables students to become fully engaged in areas that interest them but also allows students to experience other varied areas of the law”.
Jack’s time at university was disrupted by the covid-19 pandemic, meaning his second year was entirely online, however, this did not stop him from achieving his impressive grades and having a great experience. He said: “I’ve had a fantastic experience despite the difficult circumstances, the support from the lectures and the university as a whole has been amazing.”
After graduation, Jack will be going on to study the LPC MSc in Law, Business and Management at the University of Law in Manchester, before beginning his training contract in London at international law firm Clyde and Co in 2023. At Clyde and Co, Jack will undertake four six-month seats before becoming a fully qualified solicitor in commercial law.
“The next few years are just going to be working towards qualifying as a solicitor, using the knowledge I’ve gained from Salford and exploring all the different roles and areas that Clyde and Co have to offer. It’s going to be such an amazing experience and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!”
