GMIoT opens doors to tech skills at Mediacity

Categories: University Campus

This week the team at Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT) took part in the Talking Futures campaign at MediaCity.

They were working with the Gatsby Education Team who set up a brilliant installation of bright blue doorways to showcase their new campaign encouraging parents to talk to their children about technical education.

Tim Campbell, who was the first ever winner of BBC’s The Apprentice, helped launch the campaign to highlight the message that options like T-levels, apprenticeships or Higher Technical Qualifications can ‘open doors’ for children.

Speaking at the campaign launch in London before it travelled to Salford Tim said: "Technical education opens doors for young people by giving them hands on experience, industry relevant knowledge and practical skills that they can take into the workplace.

“The Gatsby team marked the launch of their new Talking Futures Technical Education Open Doors campaign with the one day pop up installation at MediaCity to let parents know how their children can benefit from technical qualifications.

“It’s important to know about options like Higher Technical Qualifications, T levels and Apprenticeships. These can help children get real-world experience alongside their learning.”

University of Salford’s Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT) specialises in providing qualifications in fields ranging from construction and engineering to health and digital skills.  Led by the University of Salford with Wigan & Leigh College as the lead FE partner, the GMIoT brings together a number of colleges and employers in the city region.

The GMIoT is for both school and college leavers who might be considering a career in STEM and older learners looking to upskill or retrain. Courses are already being offered by the GMIoT, but construction is currently underway for a state-of-the-art flagship building at the University.

Jo Purves, Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic Development at the University of Salford, said: “It’s great to see our colleagues at Gatsby using such an eye catching and creative campaign to get across the variety of qualifications we offer here in Salford, which will help students of all ages progress into meaningful well paid employment.”
