Free Legal Advice this Pro Bono Week (7th – 11th November 2022)

Categories: Salford Business School

This week is Pro Bono Week (7th – 11th November) where we recognise and support the voluntary contribution made by the legal profession across the UK in giving free legal help to those in need.

With the cost of living crisis affecting the whole nation, it is now more important than ever to raise awareness of the free legal advice that lawyers are offering to families and individuals in need.

The University of Salford is proud to have been taking part in providing free advice and solutions to legal matters including Housing and Family Law. Anyone can book an initial appointment to talk to a qualified Solicitor.

Students studying Law from the Business School and those who volunteer within the SILKS (Salford Information and Legal Knowledge Scheme) project are helping to run one of the many free legal services that are open to the public. SILKS is spearheaded by qualified lawyers and is supported by a number of external partners throughout Salford and Manchester.

Sinead Farry, a Lecturer of Law at the University of Salford said: “We are extremely proud of our students that are taking part as it provides them with vital experience in the world of law.

“The importance of Pro Bono Week and the free advice offered in the current economic climate should not be understated. It’s an integral part of the legal profession and currently not many people can afford to pay for legal advice, so it’s important to offer the help to people in need

“There is a huge need, particularly in Salford for legal advice, especially in housing and family law matters and we can go only some way to meeting that need.”
