The University of Salford will be offering additional appointments for free family law advice as part of Good Divorce Week 2021.
Good Divorce Week 2021, 29th November – 3rd December, is an initiative that runs annually, and is promoted by Resolution, an organisation representing Family lawyers nationally which promotes a non-confrontational and constructive approach towards divorce and separation. This year sees the creation of a set of valuable and informative resources intended to inform and assist parents to adopt approaches which embrace a child-centred approach when separating.
Students in the SILKS Law Clinic offer free legal advice with full support from trained solicitors. They will be raising awareness of the “Parenting through Separation Guide” prepared by Resolution through their respective social media channels as well as distributing them to clients who come through the ‘SILKS’ (Salford Information and Legal Knowledge Scheme) Law Clinic.
The clinic operates a free legal advice service for the local community and will be offering additional appointments during Good Divorce Week, and the week following for people seeking family law advice.
Covid-19 has placed significant strain on families, with separation and divorce creating further challenges and disruption, therefore early legal advice and constructive guidance and practical support are especially important.
Sinead Farry, Lecturer in Law at Salford Business School said: “There’s more need now than ever for free, independent legal advice
“Good Divorce Week is about engaging in a wider conversation regarding appropriate advice and support which can be offered to families who are in the process of separation and/or divorce.
“By enabling families to be provided with the legal advice and guidance which they require on separation, it is hoped that they can work constructively and amicably in the best interests of the children involved.”
