Categories: School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology

Four Salford graduates have been shortlisted for the 2023 Arts Thread Global Design Graduate Show.

Graduates Georgia Foley, Hannah Barston, Louise Shirras and Melissa Morrison have been shortlisted in the Fashion/Accessories/Textiles category.

The show, described as a potential launchpad for art and design students, takes place in collaboration with the luxury brand, Gucci. Over 5000 students worldwide applied for a spot in the online show this year.

Georgia, a BA Fashion Image Making and Styling graduate and Hannah, Louise and Melissa, BA Fashion Design graduates, are now looking for votes to be named the general public’s favourite designer with a judging panel to also crown their winners on Monday 16 October.

Georgia, from Leicester, has been shortlisted for her visual project Lavender, Blankets and Strawberry Lemonade, which ‘combines the curation and comprehension of artificial intelligence with the quaintness of personal relations.’

Vote for Georgia to be named the public’s favourite.

Hannah Barston's design shown by a model

Hannah, from Manchester, has been shortlisted for her visually arresting street collection Catch of the Day, which is a love letter to the fishing town of Oistins, Barbados with all fabrics are created by hand using liquid latex.

She says ‘no piece will ever be identical nor recreated due to the unique application of latex and hand finishes.’

Vote for Hannah to be named the public’s favourite.

Fashion designed by Louise Shirras

Louise, also from Manchester, has been shortlisted for her final project at Salford, entitled Hiraeth, which relates to her experiences with the idea of home.

The collection explores Louise’s feelings of nostalgia and homesickness to Wales. Louise uses asymmetric hem lines and a curved edge motif to visualise displacement and movement.

Vote for Louise to be named the public’s favourite.

Melissa, also from Manchester, has been shortlisted for her collection, Football X Dance - FMP, which explores and combines her love of football with dancing in a commercial style. One of the outfits was also on display at the Late at the Tate Eurovision exhibition earlier this year.

Vote for Melissa to be the public's favourite.

The online show is in its fourth year and hosts collections from students graduating in 2023 across four creative categories: Fashion/Accessories/Textiles, Digital/Visual/Comms/Film, Product/Architecture/Interiors and Fine/Art/Photography/Craft.

You can vote for Georgia, Hannah, Louise and Melissa to be named the public’s favourite until Tuesday 11 October.
