A Salford graduate has made her on-screen TV debut whilst on holiday after jumping at an opportunity to report from Argentina as the country lifted the FIFA World Cup.

Freya Chappell, who graduated from the University of Salford with a master's in Broadcast Journalism in 2020, was over the moon to get her first on-screen experience on Sky Sports News after she reported from a live screening of the final in Buenos Aires yesterday (Sunday 18 December 2022).

Argentina won the match on penalties after an enthralling 3-3 draw against former cup holders France in Qatar, leading to scenes of jubilation across the city.

Freya, an output producer at Sky News on the Early Rundown and Kay Burley, was on holiday in the city at the time and contacted the Sky newsdesk to offer to do a report from the live screening.

The clip was then played after the game on their channel's sister sports station in which Freya describes the 'absolutely electric atmosphere' in the city and how the city had come to a standstill to watch the game.

After the clip aired, Freya said: "It was an incredible feeling to get a message with a screenshot of myself on TV. It was a really hard day in the heat with a lot of chaos and signal issues - but the perseverance paid off! I felt so happy to be out reporting - especially in a country I love, winning the World Cup."
