British University of Bahrain has first ever graduation ceremony

Categories: Salford Business School, University Campus

The first cohort of students from the British University of Bahrain (BUB), partner of the University of Salford, UK, joined His Excellency Shaikh Khalifa bin Duaij Al Khalifa to celebrate their graduation in a prestigious ceremony.

Students enjoyed the occasion at the Ritz Carlton. Receiving their qualifications were 23 graduates from the College of Business and Law, who graduated with Marketing, Business and Management and Accounting and Finance degrees.

Professor Julie Cross, President of BUB, said: “I am very proud of what our students have accomplished, and I was delighted to see our first graduates receive their awards.

“These are the students who joined BUB as we first opened our university in September 2018, and it has been wonderful to witness them develop their knowledge and skills over the last three years. It is particularly rewarding to see them all enter the workplace and take the first steps in their professional careers.”

BUB’s partnership with Salford enables students in Bahrain to study and achieve a British degree with a shared curriculum and staff, including degrees in Business, Engineering, IT and more to come. They offer a state-of-the-art campus, featuring collaborative teaching spaces and the latest technology, to enable contemporary teaching using cutting-edge techniques.

There are also opportunities for students at BUB to experience Salford’s home campus through transfer and exchange programmes. The partnership exists as government and employers have identified skill shortages in the country and region. The courses BUB offer have been designed to fill those gaps and are aimed at contributing to growth in the national and regional economy.

Maryam Hameed Karimi, a student who graduated from the Business & Management programme, said: “BUB is here to shape minds and build character. My growth during my years at BUB will stay with me forever. I became wiser and I’m very proud of who I am today.”

An Accounting & Finance graduate, Bader Khalil Al-Mohri, said: “It was always a dream of mine to pursue an education in the United Kingdom, but it was equally important for me to stay close to family and friends, and that is what BUB provided – bringing a quality, UK education to home, right here in Bahrain.”

A key element of the partnership is the creation of an environment that enables businesses to engage with faculty staff and students on live projects, providing value both to industry and to students.

It is part of the University of Salford’s aim to grow its international reach, enabling it to meet the needs of an ever-changing higher education landscape both at home and abroad. This partnership solidifies Salford’s position as a truly international university which aims to closely serve the needs of industry and drive the development of best practice in learning.

Julie finished: “This graduation was a testament to all the hard work the students and staff put in to ensure this partnership was the best it could be. I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for both Salford and BUB!”
