Some facts relating to the photo

The Peel Building opened in 1896 to house the newly established Salford Royal Technical Institute. The Institute provided a technical education in subjects such as mechanical engineering, chemical works, textiles, and construction. The architect was Henry Lord, who designed many buildings in Manchester and Salford, including Salford Lads' Club.

The building was also home to the Salford Municipal Secondary School for Boys (1904-1914). Inside the building there is a memorial to the 74 former pupils who lost their lives during the Great War 1914-1918.
