Choosing Salford
“Whilst working in the digital marketing sector in Dubai, I realised I needed to improve my video production skills to pursue my dream career as a social media content creator. I wanted a course that was the perfect blend of video production and digital marketing – the University of Salford was the only place I found that offered this.
After consulting an alumnus of the programme, they highly recommended the course and emphasised its value. I also was attracted to the campus at MediaCity.”
My academic experience
“The best thing about the course is how it’s structured to help us find future employment. In the first module, we learned how to handle an entire production and manage multiple clients. I was then able to add all this work to my portfolio and website.
Additionally, the digital marketing modules not only teach us about the sector but also how to enhance our personal profiles to increase our chances of finding a graduate role.
Throughout the course, I have had free access to industry-standard software including the Abobe Creative Suite and DaVinci Resolve. At our MediaCity campus, there are massive equipment stores where you can rent cameras and other equipment you need for video shoots.
Throughout the course, we have worked on real-world projects but one of my favourites was submitting ideas for a D&AD brief which is a prestigious award in the advertising industry. This allowed me to see first-hand successful real-world marketing campaigns.
My aim for my final trimester is to find a placement with a social media advertising agency to enhance my employability and give me UK work experience.”
Away from the classroom
“I have joined two societies during my time at Salford. The first is the Indian Society which is great for celebrating festivals from my home country. The second is the Alpha Beta society. Both have allowed me to make some great friends and I like to hang out with them at the Students’ Union’s restaurant, Atmosphere.
My favourite thing about studying in Salford is living in MediaCity. I love walking around and seeing all the big media companies like ITV and the BBC. I find myself manifesting that I will work there one day.
I’ve also managed to visit London which was a childhood dream of mine. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so I went to King’s Cross Railway Station and saw platform nine and three quaters, which was a fantasy come true.”
The next step
“Once I graduate, I plan on using the Graduate Visa to find a full-time position at a social media advertising agency here in the UK to create incredible videos for their clients. I’d also like to travel more around the UK and Europe. After this, I plan to return to India to start my own media company.
My advice to any future international students would be to step out of your comfort zone and embrace different cultures. Remember to have fun and make the most out of your time abroad."
