Four students sat around a table studying with their laptops

Adejumoke dreams of opening her own clothing production business. To achieve this, she decided to enhance her skills by studying our MA Fashion Business and Marketing.

Discover how her experiences at Salford are setting her up for success.

Choosing Salford

“I decided to pursue further study to improve my skills in fashion and business, develop my creative abilities and showcase my heritage to a global market.

I was specifically looking for a course that offered business and marketing education in relation to fashion. Salford was one of the only institutions to offer this.

The University also has a great academic reputation for media and arts courses. In addition, it has a lot of state-of-the-art equipment which I knew would enhance my studies.

I was also very attracted to Salford’s location minutes from Manchester city centre, which is home to many well-known global fashion brands.”

MA Fashion Business and Marketing

“MA Fashion Business and Marketing combines theoretical learning and practical application. Professionals from the industry often come in to teach seminars and workshops, to give us an insight into what the sector is really like. We also put our learning into practice through case study tasks and live projects.

Our tutors are very understanding, experienced and committed to supporting all their students to achieve their best during the course.

As part of the programme, I had the opportunity to take a field trip to ACS Clothing, a world leader in fashion rental and renewal reverse logistics based in Scotland. I found this an invaluable experience to learn more about how to promote sustainability in the fashion industry and reduce waste. Specifically, we focused on how old garments can be re-processed to be recycled, rented, refurbished or reused.”

Campus Life

“There are lots of ways that international students are supported at Salford. When you first arrive in September there is a packed Welcome Week full of induction activities to help you settle in, make friends and find your way around campus. During this week, you’ll also have an induction to your course.

Throughout the year, there are sessions to help you with your study skills run by the Library. As well as Learn English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) which helps non-native English speakers with their writing, reading, listening and speaking in English.

There are also services to help you with your mental wellbeing through the University’s support service, askUS. Plus, there’s a GP surgery on campus where you can go if you need to see a doctor.”

Looking towards the future

“For my remaining time at Salford, I’d like to focus on learning more about the production side of fashion businesses because this is the area I would like to go into. My dream is to start my own brand in the production of Adire, a traditional style of clothing from the southwest of Nigeria.

I would also like to continue networking with industry professionals to build more connections which will help me to achieve my dreams.”
