Choosing Salford

“I chose to study a human resources postgraduate qualification at Salford Business School because of its strong reputation and Chartered Institute of Personal Development (CIPD) accreditation. The university’s commitment to practical learning and its location in Greater Manchester also appealed to me as it offered a vibrant setting for academic and personal growth.

The programme stood out to me because of its focus on contemporary HR practices which aligned with my career aspirations in people management. My interest in the field was sparked by my desire to understand how organisations nurture talent and drive employee development.”

My Salford Experience

“The skills and knowledge I acquired during my course included data-driven decision-making, conflict resolution strategies and effective communication techniques. These have all proven to be extremely valuable throughout my career. These competencies enable me to tackle HR challenges proactively and contribute to the overall success of the organisation.

The Careers and Enterprise team at Salford were very helpful. I remember attending a one-to-one appointment where the advisor assisted me in refining my CV and interview technique. They also showed me a lot of relevant job portals I could use.

During my time at Salford, I worked part-time as a Student Ambassador during Open Days and Offer Holder Days. I helped prospective students and their parents by answering any questions and showing them where they needed to go. It was a great experience to work with other Student Ambassadors from all around the world and learn about their culture.”

Journey since graduating

“Since graduating, I’ve progressed steadily in my career moving from recruitment-focused jobs to roles that involve strategic HR planning and organisational restructuring. I believe that the reputation and the quality of education at Salford enabled me to progress in my career.

Currently, I hold the position of Deputy Director HR in the PPIB, which promotes private investments in the Pakistani power sector. I am responsible for all the major HR functions that span the employee life cycle. During the last year, my role has evolved into strategic workforce planning, fostering a positive organisational culture and ensuring alignment between HR initiatives and business objectives.

The practical focus of the course equipped me with skills such as conducting HR audits, designing employee development programmes, implementing performance management systems and organisational restructuring. These skills have been instrumental in my current role.”
