CAS Document Checklist

Below are the documents we may require to process your CAS and the information that is required on these documents.

Before applying for your CAS, please check the maintenance requirements to ensure you hold the required level of funds/maintenance.

Bank Statement

  • Bank name and logo
  • Currency the funds are held in
  • Account holder name 
  • Account number (IBAN is not sufficient)
  • Lowest balance for 28 consecutive days prior to statement date - please check the maintenance requirements
  • Date of statement (this cannot be more than 31 days before you submit and pay for the visa application)

Bank Letter

  • Bank name and logo
  • Account holder name 
  • Account number
  • Type of account
  • Currency funds are held in 
  • Date balance was confirmed (this cannot be more than 31 days before your visa application)
  • Lowest balance in the 28-day period prior to this date - please check the maintenance requirements
  • Name and signature of the employee who produced letter

There must be no restrictions placed on the withdrawal of funds - funds can be withdrawn by the account holder immediately, without notice.

Fixed Deposit Certificate

  • Account holder name 
  • Account number or deposit reference number 
  • Amount deposited - please check the maintenance requirements
  • Currency funds are held in 
  • Bank name and logo
  • Issue date (this cannot be more than 31 days prior to your visa application)
  • Date deposit made (this must be 28 days or more before the issue date of the certificate)

There must be no restrictions placed on the release of funds - funds can be withdrawn by the account holder immediately without notice.

Education Loan Letter

  • Date of letter
  • Financial institution's name and logo
  • Loan reference number
  • Amount of money available as a loan
  • Name of student as loan holder (parents/guardians would not be accepted)
  • Any terms and conditions of the loan (you must request this if they are not present)

There should be no restrictions placed on the release of funds, other than you not obtaining a student visa. Sanctions will not be accepted without an additional letter confirming all other conditions have been satisfied.

The funds must be released directly to the student prior to travelling to the UK (if the Educational Loan Letter does not confirm this then we must have bank letter confirming funds can be released to the student). Only the tuition fees can be paid directly to the University. Funds cannot be released to the account of any other person.

Financial Sponsorship Letter

  • Sponsor's official stamp or signature
  • Sponsor's header (including contact details)
  • Applicant's name 
  • Date of letter (must be less than 6 months old at the date of your visa application)
  • Length of sponsorship (or start and end dates) - this period must cover the course start and end dates stated on your CAS
  • Amount of money the sponsor is providing or statement that all of your tuition fees and living costs are covered

If the full maintenance requirement isn't covered, you must submit further documentation to cover the remaining amount.

Dependents living costs (only applicable to certain students - see below) must be covered in the letter or further documentation to cover them must be provided.

Only tuition fees can be paid directly to the University.

Funding from Parent or Legal Guardian

In addition to the financial documents provided in your parent or legal guardian's name (which must meet the requirements above), you must also provide the following -

  • Letter of permission from your parent or legal guardian including your relationship e.g. I am the mother/father of ... and confirm permission to use the funds for the purpose of tuition fees and living costs whilst studying in the UK
  • Birth certificate (original and translation if the original is not in English)

Translations

Any documents that are not in English must be translated by a professional translator. You must submit a fully certified translation that includes:

  • Confirmation that the translation is an accurate representation of the original document 
  • Date of translation 
  • Translator/company's qualifications (in the UK only)
  • Translator's contact details 
  • Translator/authorised official's signature (plus full name of the individual if not based in the UK)

Passport

If you have a new passport or have not already provided a copy of your passport to the University prior to the submission of your CAS request, please upload a copy of your passport.

Affidavits

Affidavits are not included in the legal documents accepted by UKVI therefore the University of Salford cannot accept them.

Legal Guardians

To be considered a legal guardian in the UK, they must have legally undertaken guardianship of you whilst you were still a minor (under the age of 16) and this must have been overseen by a solicitor or lawyer.

Dependents

As of 01 January 2024, you will only be able to bring dependents with you to the UK if the course is either:

  • A PhD or other doctorate (RQF Level 8)
  • A research-based higher degree

TB Certificates

Immigration Rules Appendix Tuberculosis (TB) - this appendix sets out when a person is required to provide a valid TB certificate with their application for entry clearance and the requirements for a TB certificate to be valid.

If you are a national of a country which requires a TB certificate but you have been a resident of a country that doesn't require a TB certificate for 6 months or longer, you may not need a TB certificate. You must provide evidence of this such as a residency permit.

 

OANDA

The Immigration Rules Appendix Finance states the following regarding the conversion of foreign currencies to GBP:

1. FIN 1.1 Where money is held in one or more foreign currencies, this will be converted into pound sterling (£) using the spot exchange rate which appears on Oanda on the date of application.

Date Calculator is a useful resource for calculating the number of days between dates - please use this to ensure that your funds have been held for 28 consecutive days and your financial evidence is less than 31 days old.
