Information for guests
If you are visiting us to celebrate someone's graduation, we welcome you. Here is some information to help you enjoy the big day.
What happens during the graduation ceremony?
Graduation ceremonies are a celebration of all the achievements of students. Ceremonies will include speeches from University of Salford leaders, graduates will then be presented categorised by their course, beginning with doctorates and postgraduate awards, and then moving on to undergraduate awards.
Guests will sit separately to the graduates in assigned seats, graduates will be asked to take their seats 45 minutes before the ceremony. An announcement for all guests to take their seats 30 before the start of the ceremony.
To ensure our ceremonies are a memorable occasion for all, we ask that mobile phones are on silent and that guests do not block other guests view of the stage.
Please respect all the graduates by remaining in the theatre for the duration of the ceremony, we need the first cheer to be as loud as the last.
At the end of the ceremony, the procession exits first, followed by the graduates and then guests.

How do I get tickets to graduation?
Each graduate can bring two guests to their ceremony, they can select their complimentary tickets for you when booking their place at graduation.
These tickets are free of charge and collected from the ticket desk by graduates on graduation day after they check in and receive their robes. Guest tickets will not be posted in advance.
Additional guests are welcome to come and celebrate on the day as well. A free live stream will be shown on campus (in our Peel Building at winter graduation) and on YouTube.
We occasionally have additional tickets available on the day however, this is not guaranteed. If tickets are available, they will be sold on a first come, first served basis, priced at £16.00 each. Graduates can ask at the ticket desk on the day if there are any additional guest tickets available when collecting their complimentary guest tickets.
Bringing children to Graduation?
We welcome children to all ceremonies, however anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Health and safety regulations determine that all participants and guests at the ceremonies are to be seated, so children two years of age and older must have their own seat and their own ticket. Children who are less than two years old may sit on an adult’s lap and will require a free ‘Child Under 2’ ticket, which you can be added to the access requirements notes when graduates register and order their free tickets. Graduates can contact us to add a 'Child Under 2' ticket if they have already registered by emailing grad-acd@salford.ac.uk.
Graduation ceremonies are approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, which can sometimes prove to be too long for younger children who may become restless. For the comfort of other guests, guardians may be asked to take any child that becomes agitated or distressed out of the theatre and into the reception area.
