Our commitment to colleagues and students

The University of Salford is committed to achieving an environment in which all colleagues and students are treated with respect, and in which a zero-tolerance approach is taken to bullying, harassment and discrimination.

Discrimination, harassment, and victimisation in relation to gender identity and expression will not be tolerated anywhere in the university – whether it is directed towards colleagues, students, or visitors. We will take all appropriate steps to protect our colleagues and students from discrimination. All people at the university have a gender identity and we will treat that with dignity and respect.

Trans and non-binary people are a valued community in our university. We have a trans and non-binary policy to support colleagues and students who are transitioning. We also have guides on supporting gender diversity with students and colleagues.

We are proud to have an active student body and staff who support the rights of our LGBTQ+ community.

We have lots of resources available for anyone seeking assistance or support in expressing and exploring identity, no matter where you fall on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. This might be the first time thinking about your sexual orientation or gender identity, in which case there is reassurance to be had in knowing that we seek to create a safe environment for you to question and explore by supporting a policy of diversity and equality for all staff and students.

Whether you're out, prefer not to be visible, or are unsure of your sexual and/or gender identity, you are welcome in our community. We're striving to be a place where you feel like you can belong. Our Salford Proud and Trans Networks provide support, connection and influence over issues so please join if you feel comfortable doing so.
