To excel in your studies of English, Drama and Creative Writing, you’ll need access to many resources. From a wide range of books and journals to a 350-seat theatre, we have everything you need to that allow you to investigate and develop your ideas.
You’ll also be able to access a range of development and learning sessions, so you can learn how to use and access everything we have or brush up on your IT and research skills.
Clifford Whitworth Library
As an English student, you’ll be based at our Peel Park campus. Here you’ll find our main library, the Clifford Whitworth Library. It houses a range of books and provides access to eBooks, online databases, and other archives and special databases. You’ll be able to access PCs and rent a laptop if you need to.
You’ll also be able to view the books, videos and journals on your reading lists and quickly find out how best to access them.
On top of that, you’ll have access to LinkedIn Learning and thousands of online training courses across various subjects.

Peel Park Campus
Being based at Peel Park, you’ll be studying right next to the green space of the park itself. You’ll be close to the students’ union and the Atmosphere bar, and if you’re planning on moving away from home for your studies, Peel Park Quarter (one of the main accommodation areas) is only a couple of minutes’ walk away.
You can also catch the number 50 bus (free when you show your student ID) or jump on a train from Salford Crescent train station, and be in the centre of Manchester in a matter of minutes.
MediaCity Campus
Depending on your course, you may also study some modules at our MediaCity campus. We’re the only university to have a campus here, and our neighbours include the BBC, ITV and more than a hundred digital and creative businesses. It’s the ideal place to explore disciplines such as scriptwriting and offers the chance to collaborate with fellow students on a range of media and digital-based courses.
New Adelphi Theatre
Are you studying drama? Our 350-seat theatre features flexible seating configurations to suit a range of events and performances, both professional and student-led. It is equipped with a range of intelligent and generic lighting, a highly adaptable EM Acoustics PA system, and a high-powered Christie projector to provide the best possible environment for starring in, directing, or watching the show.
It’s also a great place to catch a show or two, with performances in a range of genres on offer regularly.
Studio theatre
Suitable for all types of performance, this classic black-box performance space offers a more intimate venue than the New Adelphi Theatre. It features flexible seating and staging, so you can shape the area to meet your creative needs.
Screen acting studios
Passionate about a career on the screen? Hone your skills using our two-screen acting studios.
Screen 1 provides a professional fixed set and three-camera HD facility so that you can practise in front and behind the camera. Screen 2 operates as a flexible and experimental space, with a mobile three-camera 4K-production unit, so you have the flexibility to capture a range of scenes and scenarios.
A professional studio gallery completes the set-up so you can bring the whole performance together.
How to find us
🚂 By rail
The University of Salford has a dedicated train station, Salford Crescent. Direct services run to and from Manchester Airport, Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria, and Blackpool, Bolton, Buxton, Blackburn, Southport, Preston and Lancaster.
🚌 By bus
Staff and current students can get around campus for free using the 50 bus. The number 50 runs every 10-15 minutes between East Didsbury and MediaCity via our Peel Park campus. You can also get to us by using services 8, 12, 26, 31, 32, X34, 36, 37, 38, 50, X61, 67, or 100.
🚗 By car
The New Adelphi building is located in the Peel Park Campus just off the Crescent (A6). The closest campus carpark is Irwell Place car park. There are Blue Badge spaces on campus closer to the building.
Parking is chargeable 7 days a week between the hours of 9am – 6pm. After 6pm, parking is free. Please note: all university car parks us the PayByPhone App, Irwell Place has an optional Pay and Display machine.
