Harry’s story

Accounting and finance student Harry Rosenberg sat in front of his laptop with his placement provider, Suzanne, sat next to him.

Harry, who is studying BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance with Placement Year, tells us about his experience on placement at the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Foundation Trust:

“I wanted to gain more experience and expand on what I’ve been learning at university to make sure that when I finish my degree, I’m as prepared as possible to join the financial and accounting world.

At a presentation organised through my course, I got information about placements at the National Care Alliance. After that, I applied for a placement role. There was an interview and now I’m here.

I deal a lot with the NHS PE weekly files. NHS PE is a standalone organisation that provides medical and agency staff. They send me an invoice for the shifts staff have worked, and I manage the cost centres, data and formulas, send these to each care organisation, then post a journal to get it on the ledger. I love it. I enjoy the responsibility. There are weekly deadlines to keep on top of, but I feel like I’m learning a lot.

I can’t stress enough how much I recommend doing a placement. You need to go in with the right attitude, but if you do, you’ll gain skills you didn’t know you needed to learn. You get a real grasp of the working world, and it gets you into successful working habits. It’s been rewarding and challenging – but most importantly, really enjoyable.”
