We understand Veterans - or students whose parent(s), carer(s), or partner are current or former UK Armed Forces personnel - may find there are unique circumstances to consider when thinking about studying at a university.
That’s why we offer extra support and have a dedicated Armed Forces Lead who can help you on your journey to further study at The University of Salford. Our Armed Forces Lead, Victoria Coomber has a wealth of experience working and supporting the Armed Forces Community, including supporting her own daughter into higher education. If you are applying to the University of Salford to start your course in 2023, you will now be asked if you are from a UK Armed Forces family or have served in the UK Armed Forces. This information means we will be able to connect you to the right support for your needs quickly and easily and ensure you have all the information you need.
Veterans/Reservists
When applying to higher education, it can be difficult to understand how the training and qualifications gained in the UK Armed Forces compare to ‘traditional’ routes and qualifications and whether they are recognised by different course providers. At The University of Salford, we recognise or accredit prior learning (RPL/APL) to give accreditation for relevant knowledge, skills, and experience already gained, and some will match your rank and qualifications to existing civilian qualifications.
Enhanced Learning Credits
The Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS) scheme is in place to promote lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces. Under the scheme, members of the military can receive financial support to contribute towards their higher-level learning.

The Armed Forces Bereavement Scholarship Scheme (AFBSS)
The Armed Forces Bereavement Scholarship Scheme (AFBSS) provides higher and further education scholarships for service children who have been bereaved.
