Self-Funding Students and How to Pay Your Fees

Paying your tuition fees is an integral part of the registration process at the University. If you do not arrange payment of your fees in advance of your arrival, you must do so when you register.

If you are an international student, you will be required to pay a deposit of £5,500 unless you are sponsored (see sponsored students tab on our Tuition Fees page). This deposit is only refundable in the event of a visa refusal, for reasons other than fraud.

If you have applied for our International Foundation Year, the deposit amount you need to pay may be different. Please check your offer letter for the deposit amount you will be required to pay to get your unconditional offer.

Things to consider before making a payment

Keeping your money safe

Students are often targeted by fraudsters and the University has a zero-tolerance policy to fraud. If any payment is found to be fraudulent then the applicants' offer of study will be withdrawn and sanctions applied to any currently registered students.

We therefore recommend:

  • Only paying from your account or that of a close relative/friend you can trust.
  • Do not pay your fees to anyone other than the University or Flywire.
  • Do not make payment to ‘Agents’ or allow them to pay on your behalf.
  • Do not share your personal details to allow others to pay on your behalf.
  • You are wary of anyone other than the University offering to pay your fees at a discount, this is likely to be fraudulent.

Verifying the payment source

The UK, EU and US financial regulators have imposed financial sanctions on certain individuals, companies and banks.

The University has an obligation to know where all the payments they receive are coming from, so we sometimes complete extra checks regarding the origin of your fee payment.

If your nationality or permanent residence is that of a country currently sanctioned you may be contacted and asked to complete a questionnaire about who is paying your fees.

Applicants who receive an offer letter stating they must complete the questionnaire, should do so before paying a study deposit.

Any student may be required to provide further payment information at the discretion of the university.

How to pay your tuition fees

The university only accepts payment by:

  • Debit or credit card online from any worldwide card.
  • Bank Transfer from an overseas bank account using Flywire.

Please note: We do not accept cash or UK bank transfers.

Find more information about how to pay your tuition fees below.

Prompt payment discount

If you are self-funding your studies, you can pay for your tuition in full at or before registration. If you do so you will qualify for a 3% discount on the element of fees you are self-funding. If you pay in full via Flywire, then please send your payment minus the 3%.

If you have already paid 100% of your fees at or before registration, you can request a refund of the 3% overpayment by contacting the Income and Treasury team after registration. Please note the refund will be credited back to the original payer using the same method of payment.

Instalment plans

The University offers instalment plans, please see undergraduate and postgraduate tabs below.

Failure to keep up with instalments may result in your student status being cancelled and you will be asked to leave your course.
