LGBTIQ+ Students
We are proud to have an active student body and staff who support the rights of our LGBTQIA+ community.
We have lots of resources available for anyone seeking assistance or support in expressing and exploring identity, no matter where you fall on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. If this is your first time thinking about your sexual orientation or gender identity, know that we seek to create a safe environment for you to question and explore by supporting a policy of diversity and equality for all staff and students. We can offer support such as our sensitive name change support, as well as 1-1 appointments, group events, and referrals to other teams and organisations both internal and external to the university.
You can contact us with any questions on LGBT@salford.ac.uk or on +44 (0)161 295 0023.

Changing your name
Here at Salford, we celebrate our diverse student and staff population. We are here to help you change your name across university systems so that you can be addressed by your preferred name for the duration of your studies with us. As we know different people will be at different points in their journey with their gender identity and their name, we do not ask for evidence to make this change for you.
Please note, whilst we do not ask for evidence to change your name to your preferred name, we would need to receive a deed poll from you in your final year of study. This is because a degree certificate must be printed using your legal name. However, we can support you to advise you on getting a deed poll or support you with getting your preferred name read aloud at your graduation ceremony. Contact us on LGBT@salford.ac.uk for more information.

While most health issues affecting LGBT+ individuals are similar to those of the general population, we know that LGBT+ people have unique health needs and experience disparities in care. Our on-campus Health Centre was awarded a Gold standard for ‘excellence in LGBT healthcare’ through LGBT Foundation’s Pride in Practice quality assurance scheme. The Health Centre offers services to support LGBTQIA+ students including bridging prescriptions for those waiting for specialist treatment, Gender Identity Clinic referrals, health screenings and more. Visit the clinic's webpage for more information.
